  12. Daily Kos Writer Contrasts Old-School Republicans With Today’s ‘Bats**t Crazy’ Version

    NewsBusters blogs | 26 Jul 2014 | 5:45 am MDT

Liberals like to opine that righty Republicans of the fairly recent past, such as Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley Jr., or even Ronald Reagan, were nowhere near as wild-eyed as the Tea Party crowd. In a Tuesday Daily Kos post by the mononymous Hunter, it was Bob Dole (granted, no one’s idea of a movement conservative) who represented the party’s rational “old guard” against the “clearly batshit insane” congressional GOPers.

Hunter’s peg was the possibility of a second Senate vote on the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities. Dole visited the Senate chamber earlier this week to rally support for the treaty, which fell short of ratification in 2012 because most Republicans voted against it.

  13. Climate Change and Corn in North Dakota

    CanadaFreePress.Com | 26 Jul 2014 | 5:05 am MDT

Over the past year-and-a-half, the mainstream media has taken note of increasing corn production in North Dakota since the early 2000s. And, of course, climate change is trotted out as the cause (i.e., the supposed warming is leading to more favorable growing conditions), but—as is far too often the case—much of the journalism is lacking a complete characterization of what is going on.

    NewsBusters blogs | 26 Jul 2014 | 4:48 am MDT

The beauty of weaving an anti-fracking agenda into a work of fiction is that drilling for natural gas can be demonized without a burden of proof. It is fiction after all.

And it’s precisely what James Browning did with his novel, “The Fracking King.” The July 1 release was not classified as young adult literature, but read like it. The hardcover ranked 37,351 in books on Amazon Best Sellers rankings as of July 21. Barnes and Noble said the book’s sales rank was 436,599 the same day.

  17. Science for the Picking

    CanadaFreePress.Com | 26 Jul 2014 | 4:46 am MDT

In a May commencement speech delivered at the University of California, Irvine, President Obama mocked members of the U.S. Congress who ‘duck the question,’ as he put it, “of whether climate change is real by saying that they are not scientists”. Since then, articles appearing in a number of “neutral” media outlets, including the Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, San Francisco Chronicle, Cape Cod Times, Huffington Post, etc., have endorsed this learned approach of addressing the issue of climate change. Clearly, they display climate change believers’ chosen tactic of ridiculing or dismissing as climate change deniers anyone, including scientists, analysts and politicians, who dares to raise questions about the views of many within the contemporary climate science community.

  18. Why Obama will never understand Netanyahu

    CanadaFreePress.Com | 26 Jul 2014 | 4:44 am MDT

—Satire: Another Exclusive Hugh Betcha Report It is no secret that the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, don’t hang out. In fact, they appear not to like each other very much. This is unfortunate because—whether Obama likes it or not—Israel is our most trusted and important ally in the Middle East. Perhaps it is our only real ally in the Middle East. 90. Records Showing Antarctic Ice Growth Must Be All Wrong

    Sweetness & Light | 25 Jul 2014 | 9:33 am MDT

From an unfazed Los Angeles Times:

Study casts doubt on rate of Antarctic sea ice growth

    By Julia Rosen | July 24, 2014

A new study suggests that scientists must reexamine records that show increases in Antarctic sea ice since 1979. Researchers found that something changed in the way satellite data get converted into ice cover, but they can’t yet identify the exact nature of the change, or whether it fixed a problem or introduced one.

In other words, since all the data shows that the ice in Antarctica is actually growing rather than receding as is should we global warming, the ‘scientists’ have decided the data must be wrong. Even though they can’t say why or where it is wrong.

    Isn’t science fun?

They can say that their results show either Antarctic sea ice has not expanded as much as previously reported or it has been gaining ground for longer than scientists realized.

  91. NYT: It’s Not Obama’s Fault, Presidents Have Little Power

    Sweetness & Light | 25 Jul 2014 | 9:20 am MDT

From a shameless New York Times:

Obama and the Myth of Presidential Control

    By Brendan Nyhan | JULY 24, 2014

One of the most common criticisms of presidents — especially struggling ones during their second term — is that they have lost control of events. This charge, which has been leveled at chief executives such as Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, has become a mantra lately in coverage of President Obama, who faces a stalled legislative agenda and crises in Ukraine, Gaza and at the border with Mexico.

When did anyone ever say that President Reagan lost control of events? Or even President Bush? They certainly never escaped any blame that way. (But that didn’t stop the NYT from posting a series of photographs of President Reagan with this article.)

    What happened?

    From Breitbart:

Obamacare Architect: States Without Exchanges Get No Subsidies

    by John Sexton | July 24, 2014

Jonathan Gruber, a "key architect" of  Obamacare was caught on tape in 2012 saying states which do not set up an Obamacare exchange are not eligible for subsidies. His admission mirrors the arguments of plaintiffs in the Halbig case and has the potential to push Obamacare to the brink of collapse…

Supporters of the law have argued that the bill was poorly drafted. They claim the apparent limitation of federal subsidies to state-based exchanges was merely a legislative typo. And since it was a typo, they argue, courts should look to the intent of the lawmakers…

[In] a 2012 video of Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber stating unequivocally that subsidies are not available in states which do not set up their own exchanges:

Q: The health information exchanges for the states and it’s my understanding that if states don’t provide them that the federal government will provide them.

  99. House RINOs Fear Backlash For Not Giving Obama $3.7B

    Sweetness & Light | 25 Jul 2014 | 8:33 am MDT

    From The Hill:

House Republicans fear backlash from punting border bill to the fall

By Peter Schroeder and Cristina Marcos | July 24, 2014

House Republicans are growing anxious about leaving town for the August recess without passing a border bill. Ahead of a pivotal conference meeting Friday morning, rank-and-file lawmakers are openly fretting about the questions they would face from constituents if they break from legislative work without taking action to address the surge of child migrants into the United States.

This is pretty hilarious. Especially coming as it does from the same media outlet that told us back on July 12th: ‘Immigration reform fizzles as campaign issue for Democrats.’

But now we are supposed to believe the House Republicans will suffer if they don’t give Obama a $4 billion dollar slush fund which will line the pocket of pro-amnesty lawyers and judges and other Democrat operatives.

    Sweetness & Light | 25 Jul 2014 | 8:06 am MDT

From a white-knuckled New York Times:

National Guard in Texas Could Get Arrest Power

    By MANNY FERNANDEZ | JULY 24, 2014

HOUSTON — When Gov. Rick Perry of Texas announced plans to deploy 1,000 National Guard troops to help with the border crisis, it came with a power unexpected by some. By deploying them himself rather than through Washington, he has the power to order the troops to make arrests and apprehensions, something Guard troops in past border deployments have been prohibited from doing.

The NYT and the rest of our media need to pick a story and stick to it. They had previously objected to putting the National Guard on the border because ‘that would just be symbolic.’ Since, they said, the Nation Guard wouldn’t have the power to arrest or deport anyone.
