The Marion County Sheriff's Office reported that 27-year-old Mario Oscar Carlos told authorities Friday that he had been robbed at gunpoint while exiting a highway. But when investigators pushed Carlos for details, his story changed. Carlos told detectives that he gave a Sarasota spiritual healer $8,000 to have it blessed. The healer told him to roll up the money and put it in a white tube sock, but the healer then secretly switched the sock for one containing about 50 one-dollar bills. Carlos discovered the scam on the drive home. Carlos was charged with false report of a crime and was being held on $500 bail.

A 10-inch kitchen knife was found on the ground. At the scene, police said they detained Martez Reshard Huntley, 21, of Apopka, who yelled obscenities and said, "Let him die." Huntley was charged with first-degree murder. Authorities said the call was sparked by Roberto Diaz, a homeless man who said Huntley approached him as he was walking down the street, brandished a knife, told him that he was going to kill him and swung but missed. Diaz ran across the street to the security guard at Checkers, who called police. Diaz said he did not know the stabbing victim.
