GOP Problems Run Deeper Than Repugs Want To Admit

If Republicans want to regain a meaningful place at the political table they had better start addressing ALL the crap that has frazzled the faithful.

It’s clear the party has to get back to basics like smaller government, controlled spending, national security, personal integrity, family values, lower taxes, balanced budgets, and so forth but there’s another area that needs focused attention.

That would be the practice of letting just any bozo run for office as a Republican when in fact their ideology is super libertarian or socialist-Democrat.

Five GOP super liberals just introduced a bill in the House [H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008] to ban private ownership of some guns designed for personal use.

Notice the bill even uses the anti-gun lobbyist’s favorite slogan, “Assault Weapons,” which has never been defined but serves the Left’s purpose of misleading the drive-by public into thinking they’re talking about tanks and battle ships. The bill was introduced by Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) with cosponsors (as of 2008-11-07), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Rep. Michael Ferguson (R-NJ), Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Rep. Michael Castle (R-DE).

I’m not alone in thinking the bums should be kicked out of the GOP.

Duane Lester, RWN:

All of them need to leave the party.

Seriously.

Go.

We don’t need your kind anymore. It is this kind of stuff that lost the Republican majority in Congress. No, not this particular issue, but the failure to adhere to Republican values in general. If you want to behave like a gun-grabbing Democrat, go sit on their side. It is better that the Republicans be in the minority, but true to conservative values than to be in the majority with no clear values at all.

In a related post at The NextRight Patrick Ruffini touts the merits of trying to beat Democrats for Senate seats in 2010. He proposes GOP candidates Chris Shays in Connecticut for Chris Dodd’s seat and Mark Kirk in Illinois for Obama’s seat.

I have a better plan: if Shays and Kirk are the best the GOP can come up with in those states, let the Democrats keep the seats. In fact, in the long run conservatives would be better off by campaigning AGAINST Shays and Kirk if they run.

For one, I oppose all super liberals, I don’t care if they use an R, D, I, G, L, or whatever by their names. You can’t repair a broken political party when its leadership and candidates are scoundrels, crooks, hypocrites, deceivers, cheaters, fakes and phonies.
