It seems I missed this story. I was re-reading John Derbyshire’s excellent essay, “The Talk: Nonblack Version” and discovered a link to a British newspaper story that I had missed the first time I read the essay.
The Telegraph UK:
James Kouzaris, 24, and James Cooper, 25, were discovered shirtless, with their trousers around their thighs, after they were killed in the resort of Sarasota last April. The pair pleaded for their lives, telling their attacker they were drunk, lost and had no money, before being shot as they tried to run away, the court heard.
Shawn Tyson, who was 16 at the time of the attack, allegedly told them: “Since you ain’t got no money, I have something for your ass,” before opening fire.
He was later said to have boasted about the comment and, as word of the killings spread, told a friend he had “done ‘em.”
Mr Cooper was shot four times and Mr Kouzaris was shot twice in the back with a .22 calibre Smith and Wesson revolver. Both were shot through the heart.
I see the 16 year-old double murderer is black.
I wonder, would I have seen the story in an American paper if the shooter had been white and the victims black? Just asking.
