Michael Graham @ Boston Herald.com:

We may live in the only state in America where President Obama’s Afghanistan strategy makes sense.

Across the country, citizens are trying to grasp what our president was trying to tell us Tuesday night. On the one hand, sending 30,000 more troops is “in our vital national interest” because “what’s at stake [in Afghanistan] is the security of our allies, and the common security of the world.”

On the other hand, “after 18 months, our troops will begin to come home,” and we’ll “begin the transfer of our forces out of Afghanistan in July of 2011.”

As military historian Ralph Peters put it, “It’s as if, during WWII, we’d told the Japanese and Germans that we really meant business, but intended to quit by 1944.”

The policy isn’t “Go in big and get the job done.” Nor is it “Get out fast before any more Americans get hurt.” Instead, it’s the “Surrender Surge.” Go in big so you can get out fast.

And the emphasis is clearly on getting out.

It’s been noted that Obama never used the words “victory” and “win” once in his speech. Why would he? His key audience — the liberal base of his party — doesn’t care about a win. They just want out.

Jane Jamison @ American Thinker:

Mike Huckabee should never hold an executive public office again. His self-absorbed behavior in the past forty-eight hours shows he believes his personal political aspirations are more important than a respectful mourning period for four police officers. The cops are dead in major part due to a decision Huckabee made nine years ago. Continued….

On Feb. 10, 2008 Paul Mirengoff @ Power Line wrote:

Huckabee apparently does not count as blemishes a net tax increase of half a billion dollars, college scholarships for illegal aliens, mass clemency, and a series of Carteresque foreign policy pronouncements, including advocacy of an end to the economic boycott of Cuba. [Emphasis added]

Earlier I had written about Huckabee’s mass clemency and reported that his private colloquies with Jesus had resulted in the release of more than 900 criminals. On December 18th, 2007, I posted a correction to the under-count of 900 because an Associated Press report said Huckabee had issued 1,033 pardons and commutations during his more than 10 years as Arkansas governor.

I also said in one of the linked post:

The last thing we need is somebody ensconced in the Oval Office having private chit-chats with the big “J”. We need somebody there that will devote lots of time to reading the Constitution and supporting our Border Patrol.

Well actually Der Spiegel said: “It was the least truthful address that he has ever held.”

Never before has a speech by President Barack Obama felt as false as his Tuesday address announcing America’s new strategy for Afghanistan. It seemed like a campaign speech combined with Bush rhetoric — and left both dreamers and realists feeling distraught. [Bold in original]

One can hardly blame the West Point leadership. The academy commanders did their best to ensure that Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama’s speech would be well-received.

Just minutes before the president took the stage inside Eisenhower Hall, the gathered cadets were asked to respond “enthusiastically” to the speech. But it didn’t help: The soldiers’ reception was cool.

One didn’t have to be a cadet on Tuesday to feel a bit of nausea upon hearing Obama’s speech. It was the least truthful address that he has ever held. He spoke of responsibility, but almost every sentence smelled of party tactics. He demanded sacrifice, but he was unable to say what it was for exactly.

An additional 30,000 US soldiers are to march into Afghanistan — and then they will march right back out again. America is going to war — and from there it will continue ahead to peace. It was the speech of a Nobel War Prize laureate.

Obama (last night):

…the American people were viciously attacked [on 9.11.01] from Afghanistan…

Whaaaaat?

Obama at West Point: Portrait of a US Commander in Chief on the defensive

[...]

… I find it so disingenuous for Obama to evoke 911 in this fashion, and ignore the tenacles of jihad that stretch virtually to all points of the middle east and western world. Indeed, Obama remained very defined in his Afghanistan battle… AQ is the sole named enemy. The Taliban merely are in his way to that enemy.

This continued malfunctioning definition of an enemy will be the death of us all. The enemy is not merely al Qaeda. The enemy is the global Islamic jihad movement, bent on forcing all Muslim apostate leaders and countries, and eventually the west, to succumb to their archaic interpretation of the Koran. [Bold added.]

Now, will somebody please tell Obama and his goons that the enemy is “the global Islamic jihad movement” before we all have to prostrate to Mecca?

Tareq and Michaele Salahi with Obama

“Party Crashers” had five-year relationship with Obama before state dinner

Hey Secret Agent Man, here’s Obama, the senator flashing his pearly whites with Randy Jackson, better known as a judge on American Idol. “Others pictured are Black Eyed Peas Rock Band; Tareq Salahi the President of the America’s Polo Cup; President Elect Obama, Fergie from Black eyed Peas and Michaele Salahi, posing this time as a former Miss USA and SuperModel.”

Interesting little detail for White House gumshoes: As the above photo was published in June 2005, Barack Obama was still Senator Obama and not the President Elect. [The photo was re-published on Nov. 26, 2008 in Polo Contacts Worldwide].

If Obama “inherited” a Three Mile Island economy, he and his Dem cohorts have proceeded to turn it into Chernobyl.
