UPDATE: Redesigned Flight 93 memorial still an Islamo-fascist shrine

Pennsylvania Sept. 11 Memorial Redesigned
November 30, 2005

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Designers of a Flight 93 memorial have made a bowl-shaped piece of land its centerpiece, replacing a crescent-shape design that some critics had said was a symbol honoring terrorists, officials announced Wednesday.

The new design for the memorial, to be built on the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, crash near Shanksville, features most of the details of the original, which victims’ relatives helped select after a worldwide design competition.

But a round, bowl-shaped area would replace a ”Crescent of Embrace,” a crescent-shaped cluster of maple trees.

Trodwell at Right Thinking People has information on some of the people captured by terrorist in Iraq:

Remember the two Canadians kidnapped in Iraq? Turns out that they’re some sort of Christian anti-war activists. And it turns out that they were kidnapped because of “the illegal attack on Iraq and the continuing occupation and oppression of its people.”

No kidding. Here’s the full quote from their parent organization, the Christian Peacemaker Teams.

“We are angry because what has happened to our teammates is the result of the actions of the U.S. and U.K. governments due to the illegal attack on Iraq and the continuing occupation and oppression of its people,” Christian Peacemaker Teams said in a statement.

But they do good work, right?

… > Right Thinking People: Dying to protest

The group is in Iraq to gather evidence of war crimes. … Only they aren’t auditing the terrorist. They’re trying to pin something on the U.S./U.K.

These kidnappings smell like another of those fake hostage deals used to funnel money (legally?) to the terrorist. — Remember the communist reporter, Giuliana Sgrena? She was “kidnapped,” then mysteriously rescued. … Well, read Trodwell’s piece.

Schwarzenegger hires former Gray Davis aide Susan Kennedy as chief of staff

Well, the honeymoon with Republicans in California is over. Arnold came out of the closet to publicly reveal his Democrat-iness. His actions confound illiterate Republicans that have foolishly played along with the Schwarzenegger pretext of being a Republican.

Capitol Weekly News

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has hired Susan Kennedy, a top aide to former Gov. Gray Davis, as his new chief of staff, Capitol sources in both major parties said. The chief of staff’s position is considered the most powerful administrative position in state government, with broad authority over policy-making and the sprawling bureaucracy.

“It’s unreal. She served the governor that voters kicked out. She was executive director of the Democratic Party. She’s a Democrat through and through. What is he (Schwarzenegger) thinking?” one Republican said.

… > Capitol Weekly: Schwarzenegger hires former Gray Davis aide Susan Kennedy as chief of staff

It never ceases to amaze me that Republicans cannot learn. The GOP is over 150 years old but many of its members act like a gang of callow youngsters looking for their first date.

I understand why Republicans in California supported Schwarzenegger over Gray Davis and other hardline Democrats but the tight embrace after his election (as though he’s Republican) was a little silly.

Remember, Sen. Orrin Hatch wanted to change the Constitution so that Ahnald could run for president!

Larry Kublow is a smart guy and that makes it hard to understand his hypocrisy. That is until you realize Kudlow is libertarian. On a recent show he had a guest panel to discuss illegal immigration but chose to hoodwink his viewers. Immediately after the kickoff of the segment Kudlow shifted gears to drop the word “illegal” so that the conversation segued into bashing those of us that favor controlled borders.

Now, sad to say, I find another closet libertarian at one of my favorite blogs:

(Ankle Biting Pundit) Comment from H-Bomb:
I’m a bad gauge for this issue because, being from New Hampshire, I have almost zero exposure to the problem of illegal immigration. Moreover, I am more “open door” than most conservatives. That being said, however, I have come to believe the immigration issue [what the f*** happened to the word ILLEGAL?], with all its tributaries (terrorism, jobs, taxes, etc.) constitutes a grave threat to the GOP’s majority…

See the nuance in his remarks? “I am more “open door” than most conservatives,” followed by the convenient dropping of “illegal.” That’s the secret sign of a libertarian that wants to stay in the closet and pretend they are conservative. — H-Bomb wants open borders, so he demonizes conservatives as being anti-immigration and then spins it as being about taxes, etc. But there’s another aspect of his remark that’s troubling. Is he saying that when he’s up to his a** in alligators, he can’t see the danger until one bites him?

Does H-Bomb consider it a matter of preference if somebody with no money in the bank jumps ahead of the line and makes a withdrawal anyway? If not, why? He just implied that legal vs. illegal doesn’t matter. He just said that he is more “open door,” so why isn’t he “open vault” as well? Is he a racist?

Another neat trick they’ve been getting away with for years is to say that conservatives want to send all 11,000,000 (or 13m or 15m) illegals back to Mexico. Naturally that gives them a golden opportunity to rail against us dastardly SOBs because several million of the illegals aren’t even Mexican. Donna Brazile pulled that crap on CNN in a conversation with Bay Buchanan and Bay became the first conservative I’ve ever heard on TV that had enough chutzpah to stop it on the spot.

How long has this crap been going on? It’s been there all along but has just become noticeable since border control gained steam.

Here’s a related item from two years ago:

The Washington Times Oct. 1, 2003:

Bush administration officials yesterday angered lawmakers by refusing to take a position on illegal aliens obtaining U.S. driver’s licenses and avoiding questions about its decision to recognize Mexican identification [matricula consular] cards.

Critics say the cards issued by the Mexican Embassy are easily falsified and used by illegal aliens to establish residency.

… > Washington Times: Bush aides anger GOP lawmakers on consular IDs

Despite all that anger, the libertarians in Congress made sure that absolutely nothing was done to correct the situation. — So here we are… fours years after 9.11.01, still debating whether we’re a nation or just a bunch of diversites living in the same geographical location.

Now there are three.

Terrell Owens and his agent were joined today by Senator Arlen Specter in their belief that the Philadelphia Eagles treated Owens unfairly when they suspended him. That brings to three the number of people who believe that.

The Eagles suspended Owens for the season because he refused to obey team and NFL rules and went on TV to bad mouth his QB and the team.

An arbitrator ruled that Owens was wrong and that the team had the authority to take the action.

The action by Specter is significant because it brings his record for being continuously wrong up to the present.

My Way News: Senator Says Terrell Owens Treated Unfairly

UPDATE:
In related news, a man ran onto the field in Philadelphia during Sunday’s game between the Eagles and Packers pouring dusty material from a plastic bag onto the turf. It was later learned that he was spreading the ashes of his mother, an avid Eagles fan, who had died the day before the Eagles last year’s Super Bowl game.

On Monday, the man complained that he had been forced to spend the night in a jail cell next to a Packers fan. — And they call it the City of Brotherly Love.

UPDATE II:
It has been brought to my attention that Power Line has new information,
Arlen Specter joins Jesse Jackson and Ralph Nader.

Also, Bernard Higgins raises the possibility that Ramsey Clark could join the pro-Owens cabal.

If this keeps up Owens could become as successful as Windy Cindy.

President Bush toured along the U.S. – Mexican border near El Paso today stopping for a well planned impromptu news conference. He obviously had been well rehearsed to continue the lip service about illegal immigration as reported yesterday by Michelle Malkin.

He also made it clear that he plans to continue support for the neo-slavery system used by American agri-businesses like vegetable-fruit growers in California and ADM, as well as the restaurant and hotel industry, the construction trade and major corporations like Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, Home Depot, and others.

There were no comments from the NAACP or Jesse Jackson.

Holiday Sales Get Off to Modest Start

The nation’s retailers had a modest start to the holiday shopping season as consumers jammed stores for bargains in the early morning hours Friday but seemed to lose interest as the weekend wore on.

U.S. Retailers Post $27.8 Bln in Weekend Sales, Survey Says

Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) — U.S. retailers recorded sales of $27.8 billion over the holiday weekend, putting the industry on track for its second-biggest selling season since 1999, said the National Retail Federation.

Mall Stores See Trouble in Sales Data

As the nation’s retail executives began poring over, and in some cases despairing over, sales receipts from the holiday weekend, one pattern became clearer: consumers mobbed discount chains, with their $398 laptops and 5 a.m. openings, but largely shopped right past other specialty retailers at the mall.

Holiday sales dip, then they dazzle — Season-opening weekend rises 22%

Retailers’ hopes for their biggest season were boosted as sales picked up steam on Saturday, after a Friday kickoff that was down slightly from last year.

In all, about 145 million shoppers swarmed stores and the Internet over the weekend and spent an estimated $27.8 billion — up 22% from the weekend a year ago — according to a survey of retailers by the National Retail Federation.
